Sometimes I look back at the things I’ve done and I wonder how can some things be so chaotic and exhausting, but also so needed and revitalizing at the same time. That is how I would describe my weekend to anyone. Exhausting and revitalizing.
I did a lot, there is no questioning that, and it all starts Thursday (a complete turnaround from last Tuesday, which I wrote about here). I say the start is Thursday because that is the start of my lack of sleep for the weekend. We had our philanthropy event, which was awesome, but also a little cold and it ran until 12:30 am (and that was before cleanup). So, I went home after that to then wake up at 7:30 am, because daylight savings is always messing me up :(
It was okay though, I got to scroll through TikTok and wait until my hot yoga class I signed up for with my best friend (spoiler alert, it got canceled 30 minutes before it was supposed to start). But we were both ready to go so we went on a walk around campus instead, and it was a perfect morning for that! Honestly, it was probably better we went for the walk because we got to catch up on so much from both being so busy and let me tell you, you are NOT able to chat during hot yoga (though we will probably try to reschedule that soon!)
(I felt like a yoga mom in this fit)
Friday night I really just hung out with friends, but we did the thing where we start talking and then are up for hours, and then it's almost 2 am and everyone realizes it's time to go to sleep. This was for me to wake up again at 7 am (intentionally this time) and drive to New York City. I was supposed to be cheering our game for this weekend (Syracuse vs. Pitt at Yankee Stadium) and then stay in New York for dinner with my family, but there was an issue with travel so I couldn’t go anymore. Honestly, I was okay with this because it just meant if I still went to the city, I would have a whole afternoon to see my parents rather than just a dinner.
So, my boyfriend and I drove down (after stopping for coffee) and made it by noon-ish, then we met my parents and walked around Hudson Yards for a bit (I was trying to make my parents pick out things they wanted for Christmas, got my dad but now I need to figure out my mom). We went to an early dinner because we were going to get Korean BBQ, and didn’t want to have to wait for hours.
As always, it was an amazing dinner, and we were all stuffed after (this is probably half the food in pictures). But the night wasn’t over, we had comedy show tickets at New York Comedy Club (thank you TikTok). It really is amazing that all I had to do was look up comedy in New York and as so many recommendations came up, we found the best location and times of shows for us, and then we were all set. We were a little early though, so we stopped in a pub next door and met some Syracuse Alumni and we all watched Syracuse win together (I will probably never see them again, but it's fun to meet some random people sometimes).
It was then time to head home, and I did the same thing again when we saw our New York friends, suddenly it was almost 1 am and we needed to be up and out the door by 7:30 again. Somehow, we did it, and I got home in time for a 12-2 practice, and then I decided to not leave my apartment again for the rest of the day! I cleaned up a bit and got a little work done and then made some pasta for dinner, then watched Titanic and had a warm brownie (again check last week) and ice cream for dessert with my roommate!
So, like I said, exhausting. But I got to see my parents, I am seeing my sister next week and then everyone for Thanksgiving again (but that’s for the future blogs, so come back to keep up) and I got to have good food and spend time with my best friends and my boyfriend. I also got to drive a lot which, unpopular opinion, I love to do. Driving is similar to flying for me because there is no obligation to be on my phone or keep up with notifications, there is just one thing to focus on and good music to go with it. It’s all these people and things, they make me happy, so even if it’s a little hectic to get it all in, sometimes that can be worth it (KEYWORD: sometimes). Don’t kill yourself to fit everything in all the time, but if the occasion arises where you need a little chaos to gain some peace, I say go for it!
